How to Become a Chopper Pilot on Gold Coast
The aviation industry has many fans. Who doesn’t like to fly high in the sky and go on chopper tours every day to earn a living? While it is not easy to become a chopper pilot overnight, it is possible with some training and dedication. You can apply for a license once you complete the training program successfully and make your dream career a reality.
But what does the training include? How can you become a commercial pilot and take people on helicopter tours around Gold Coast?
Chopper pilot training courses can be full-time or part-time. Join the one that’s convenient to your existing schedule and requirements.
1. Full-Time Course
It usually lasts for 26 weeks, with classes five days a week. The course includes theory and practical training. Furthermore, the training centres provide accommodation and assistance with getting financial aid.
2. Part-Time Course
The part-time courses don’t always have a fixed schedule. You can plan the class with the training centre to suit your schedule. The average time to complete the part-time course is twelve to eighteen months.
- Flying TestYou should clear a flight test at the end of the course (for both). There could be a couple of mock tests before the final helicopter flying test to ensure a higher chance of success. The test consists of theoretical questions (verbal) and practical (flying the helicopter as per the given instructions) for about two hours. The training centre usually uses R22 two-seat helicopters for training purposes. You will get a license to fly the same. However, you can upgrade the license to include Robinson R44 once you fly both models (R22 and R44) for at least twenty hours each. R22 helicopter can carry a maximum weight of 109 kilos, while R44 has a capacity of 451 kilos.
